THE BLESSING OF OBEDIENCE
Scripture Reading: John 9
And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing. John 9:7
Jesus went about His way with His disciples and met a man who was born blind. After a discourse on what the cause of his blindness was, Jesus applied clay on the man’s eyes and gave him an instruction:
Go wash.
For this man to receive his healing, he had to go wherever Jesus sent him. Obedience was key to his healing. The name of the pool emphasized the necessity of obedience. The pool Siloam, which meant sent, was located on the eastern end of Jerusalem. That meant the man had to do a bit of walking.
His response would indicate his commitment, and whether he was interested in receiving healing for his sight or not. Similarly, our response when God is at work in our lives counts. God plays His part in the process and expects us to play our part to see His plans perfected in our lives.
He went and washed.
The mission that the Lord sent the blind man on was for him to go and wash. He obeyed Jesus’ instruction. At the pool, he had to wash off more than the clay on his eyes. He also had to wash away the disease that had plagued his eyes and rendered him sightless.
To the man, he was merely washing off the clay. But as he did so, God would heal him of his infirmity. The steps of faith we take, in obedience to God, open the door for His power to work supernaturally in our lives.
He came back seeing.
He started his journey blind and returned seeing. What a testimony! The man’s condition changed because he fully obeyed what Jesus told him to do. Miracles happen when we totally obey what God tells us to do.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be obedient to your instructions. I will go where you send me to go. In Jesus’ name, Amen._
