The University of Ghana has denounced some statements made by the Founder and President of World Miracle Outreach, Rev. Lawrence Tetteh concerning college students of the establishment.
In an interview on GTV’s Breakfast Show, the preacher indicated that there’s a excessive prevalence of HIV infections amongst college students on the University.
“The variety of girls and boys in Legon who’re HIV constructive, you’ll have the most important shock of your life. This is unhappy, that is unhappy and I’m completely satisfied I’m saying this on nationwide TV,” he stated on October 24.
“Some of those younger boys and younger ladies already on campus live promiscuous lives and so they have already contracted HIV/AIDS. These are folks I’ve prayed for… and I’m not speaking about 10 years, 5 years,” the pastor added.
But in a press launch dated October 24, 2024, the University labeled Rev. Tetteh’s remarks as “unfounded, insensitive, and disappointing,” noting that his assertions lack any data-backed proof and threat selling worry, stigma, and misinformation.
The University emphasised that HIV standing can solely be decided via scientific diagnostic strategies and never via counselling or prayer.
