Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the just-ended elections, has expressed confidence in the party’s ability to recover and regain the trust of Ghanaians following its defeat in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 11, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, acknowledged the outcome of the December 7 polls as a disappointing one for the party but assured supporters that the NPP would undertake a period of reflection and re-strategize.

“This was not the outcome we, in the NPP, envisaged; but we respect the verdict of the Ghanaian people. To Ghanaians, we have heard you clearly and with humility, we accept. We will work with you to get it right,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who led the party’s presidential ticket, for the opportunity to serve as his running mate and commended the party leadership and supoorters for their support throughout the campaign.

“I am grateful to the Vice President for nominating me as his running mate, and to the NPP leadership for the overwhelming support I received,” he stated.

NAPO assured the party faithful that lessons from the loss would serve as a guide for the party to rebuild and reposition itself as the choice of Ghanaians in future elections.

“As we go into a period of honest introspection and reflection on this electoral verdict, I am confident that we will emerge stronger, and bounce back to win the trust, confidence, support and affection of Ghanaians,” he noted.

The NPP faced a humiliating defeat by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) with a margin of over 1.6 million votes. Despite this setback, Dr. Opoku Prempeh remained optimistic, urging supporters to remain resilient.
