POSITION: Teacher of Geography and Global Perspectives (Cambridge Curriculum)

Job Description

Brainy Bairn School is a private international school in West Legon, Accra.

Position Summary

The instructor will teach the Cambridge International Geography (IGCSE and/or AS/A Level) and Global Perspectives curricula. This role entails developing analytical, research, and critical-thinking abilities through new teaching methods, preparing students for Cambridge exams, and providing them with the ability to assess global concerns.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning.

  • Deliver engaging Geography and Global Perspectives lessons that align with the Cambridge curriculum.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods, such as fieldwork, case studies, and project-based learning, to make teachings more practical and applicable.
  • Encourage critical study of geographical and global concerns, as well as debate and exploration of other points of view.

Curriculum Development.

  • Create and revise lesson plans to ensure conformity with Cambridge syllabus standards and student needs.
  • Create transdisciplinary linkages between Geography and Global Perspectives.

Assessment and Reporting

  • Create and evaluate formative and summative tests to ensure students are ready for Cambridge exams.
  • Provide students with precise comments to help them improve their academic performance and complete their research and homework tasks.

Student Engagement

  • Assist students with independent research for Global Perspectives projects and Geography assignments.
  • Encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities such as Model United Nations, environmental clubs, and global debates.

Professional development

  • Participate in Cambridge professional development courses and trainings.
  • Stay up to date on developments in teaching strategies, geography, and the Global Perspectives curriculum.

Required Skill or Experience

Education and Qualification Expectations:

Academic Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in geography, education, environmental science, or a similar discipline from an accredited university.

Teaching Qualifications 

  • A valid teaching license or certification, such as the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), or a recognized diploma in education.
  • Cambridge training certifications in geography and global perspectives are beneficial.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 3–5 years of teaching experience in Geography at the secondary or postsecondary level, particularly in an international or Cambridge curriculum setting.
  • Experience teaching Global Perspectives or other multidisciplinary areas is preferred.
  • Proven success in preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE, AS, and A Level exams.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • A solid comprehension of the Cambridge International Curriculum for Geography and Global Perspectives.
  • Proficiency in research methodologies, data analysis, and incorporating real-world global challenges into lessons.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities in English.
  • Ability to motivate children to think critically, collaborate, and solve problems.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a focus on deadlines and exam preparation.
  • Familiarity with using technology Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies in geography education.
  • A dedication to increasing environmental knowledge and global citizenship.
