Football legends mourn with Prince Tagoe as he buries mother

Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah and several other football legends have joined ex-teammate Prince Tagoe at the burial ceremony of his late mother.

Reverend Joyce Tagoe, mother of former Black Stars striker Prince Tagoe, passed away in November 2024 in Accra at the age of 69. She was an esteemed Christian serving as a clergy member at Kairos Chapel, Matuero Assembly at East Legon in Accra.

Her final burial and funeral rites saw the presence of renowned football figures, including Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, and Kwadwo Asamoah, among others.

President of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Tony Baffoe, also attended, along with former players Sam Johnson and Isaac Vorsah. Representatives from Accra Hearts of Oak, one of Tagoe’s former clubs, were also present to show their support.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Prince Tagoe expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received during this difficult time.

“Your words comforted us. Your support strengthened us. Your love sustained us. We extend our deepest gratitude to one and all for your presence, kindness, and blessings during our greatest sadness,” Tagoe wrote.

He further thanked everyone who contributed in any way, emphasising that their kindness would always be remembered.

The funeral served not only as a moment of farewell but also as a display of unity and solidarity among Ghana’s football fraternity.
