Political Analyst, Dr. Kweku Asah-Asante

Political analyst Dr. Kweku Asah-Asante has urged the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take a back seat, reflect on their tenure, and use the last few days to leave behind a positive legacy as they prepare to exit office.

Speaking on Accra-based Starr FM’s Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Dr. Asah-Asante expressed his disappointment over the current handling of the government’s businesses, particularly the Finance Minister’s failure to present the mini-budget as expected.

This delay led to Parliament closing for the year and scheduling a resumption on January 2, 2025.

Dr. Asah-Asante criticized the NPP for its approach to the transition period, describing the action as “uncomfortable.”

He stated that the party’s actions were not conducive to securing a positive legacy, setting a bad precedent.

“The posture of the NPP, I’m very uncomfortable with it. You have done your bit; the people of this country have rejected you. It is not the end of the world. You must take a back seat, look at what went wrong, reflect and improve yourself, and prepare ahead of 2028,” Dr. Asah-Asante said. “You want to hold the incoming government to ransom, is that what they want to do? I’m not sure that is the legacy they want to leave at the end of the day.”
