Woramso health facility non-operational seven months after commissioning

The Akwamuhene of Woramso in the Asutifi South District of Ahafo Region, Nana Asamoah Bediako I, is urging the Asutifi South District Assembly and government to ensure that a CHPS compound which was commissioned almost seven months ago is operationalised.

Accessing healthcare has been a major problem for the residents of Woramso, so they were understandably elated when the project was commissioned.

However, their joy was short-lived as the facility is yet to be operationalised since it was commissioned back in 2020.

The project was started by the John Mahama administration and completed by the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government.

It has been connected to the national power and water grid and has some basic facilities to take care of patients.

Meanwhile, because of lack of maintenance, the paint on the structure is peeling off.

The residents are also not happy that the project has not been operationalised several months on.

They lament that the only option left for them is to travel to Goaso, the Ahafo regional capital or to Hwidiem, the capital of the Asutifi South District, for medical care.

The Akwamuhene of Woramso, Nana Asamoah Bediako I, is thus calling on the Asutifi South District Assembly to ensure the CHPS becomes operational.

“They have brought a challenge to us. They are putting pressure on the Assembly Member because anytime they go to the facility and they meet no one there, they then put pressure on the Assemblyman. I am appealing to the district assembly to make the government aware that after the commissioning of the facility, it is still not operational. They should bring whatever it is needed to make the place operational.”

The Assembly Member of Woramso Electoral Area, Ernest Seidu Karim also shared his thoughts on the development.

“Before the 2020 elections, the DCE commissioned the facility. He came with nurses that were going to work here. The commissioning was done seven months ago but we have not heard anything from him since then. Since the nurses were shown to us seven months ago, we have not seen anybody here. We are unhappy as a community. The road to the place is not even good. We are therefore using your medium to appeal to the government that the Woramso CHPS compound is not operating.”

A resident, Rita Akurugu, in an interview with Citi News said, “last Sunday my child was sick and I took him there but there was no one there when we got to the place. I have to go to Hwidiem. If the CHPS compound were to be working, they would have given us first aid before we go to wherever we want to go.”
