Asante Kotoko emerged victorious with a last-minute goal, defeating their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, December 15, 2024. This dramatic win not only extends Kotoko’s unbeaten streak against Hearts but also marks their third consecutive league victory over the Phobians. With an additional win in the pre-season Democracy Cup, the total now stands at four matches, showcasing Kotoko’s dominance in this fierce rivalry.

The match was a tense affair, with both teams battling fiercely for control. However, it was Albert Amoah who became the hero of the day, scoring his seventh goal of the season deep into injury time. The decisive moment came after a mix-up in defense between Hearts’ Kelvin Osei Asibey and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, allowing Amoah to capitalise and secure the win for Kotoko. The late drama left fans on the edge of their seats, as the game appeared destined for a draw until the final moments.

Under the astute leadership of coach Prosper Ogum, Kotoko has developed a tactical discipline that has proven effective against their rivals. Ogum’s ability to outmanoeuvre Hearts in recent clashes has been a key factor in Kotoko’s success. His strategic approach and focus on exploiting critical moments in matches have become hallmarks of the team’s performance, earning them respect and admiration from fans.

With this victory, Kotoko climbs to sixth place in the league standings, while Hearts slips to seventh. The win not only boosts Kotoko’s morale but also sets the stage for a promising season ahead. As the team looks to maintain their momentum, they will be eager to continue their strong performances and challenge for higher honours in the league.
