Black Stars: Endure pain, smile later- Dede Ayew on how he deals with insults

Black Stars captain, Andre Dede Ayew, has spoken about the approach he uses to deal with criticism from fans and the media.

He made this revelation while answering questions as a guest lecturer on sports psychology at the University of Ghana.

Prior to making the big revelation considering the high level of scrutiny he is under as an elite athlete for the past decade, he touched on his commitment to the Black Stars course. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“It’s not easy to get certain remarks, certain insults but most importantly, is trying to understand the reason why it’s coming that way or that sense…all depends on where it is coming from. You have to try and analyze yourself, sometimes it’s unfair, sometimes it doesn’t make sense and sometimes they have a point.”

“Sometimes as a personality, you have to swallow things that you know it’s not true…but that’s where your mental toughness comes and you need to be able to endure pain to smile later. That’s my virtue.”

Dede Ayew is a free agent at the time of writing after completing the 2023-2024 season with French league side Le Havre.
