The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), on Friday, July 26, pulled out of a scheduled assembly with the Education Ministry meant to determine the subsequent line of motion concerning their ongoing strike.

According to CETAG, they didn’t see any signature in a letter from the Finance Ministry to seal any settlement with them.

Speaking to JoyInformation, CETAG’s National Communications Officer Fedilis Kamaayi mentioned “We had been anticipating an settlement that ought to have been signed by the Ministry, key stakeholders in order that primarily based on that doc we may have a dialogue however now we have not acquired the doc from the ministry.”

CETAG has been on strike since June 14, demanding higher situations of service, together with the implementation of the arbitral awards given by the National Labour Commission.

The authorities, desiring to pressure academics to return to the classroom, put a freeze on their salaries primarily based on a GTEC directive.

This has, nonetheless, not cowed the academics into backing down; they are saying they will even forfeit two extra months of their salaries if that’s what it takes to get their due.

Although Mr Kamaayi admitted that college students had been badly impacted, he mentioned this was the one solution to demand what was because of them.

A member of the communication group informed Joy FM’s Emefa Apawu that the decision of the strike relies on the employers.

“If the calls for, no matter we’re asking they usually name us, for example as we speak and ‘inform us that on Monday your account can be credited, that’s all. We name it off,” he added.
