Press Release Dodzie Numekevor must resign as NPP PC for Sege constituency

FRI, 22 NOV 2024

Dodzie Numekevor, as a political aspirant contesting to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for Sege Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party must resign from his political party if he wants to be on the side of the people and not his political party leadership.

He has to choose between his party and the people he seeks to represent.

A week ago, a leading member of the NPP who is close to the ruling government asserted that, the CEO of Electrochem Ghana should be grateful to the Akuffo Addo government for all the support he received as a businessman. This clearly indicates that, Dodzie Numekevor’s campaign on his disagreement with how the issue of Songor Lagoon is handled is against what his party, NPP stands for and therefore, for us as constituents of Sege to take him seriously and see him as a man of his words, he should resign from the NPP with immediate effect. That is the only way we can confirm he has the people at heart. We have a proverb in our local language which goes like “You cannot bewitch somebody and then carry the same person you have bewitched around for healing”.

Dodzie Numekevor cannot be separated from the NPP as he represents the views and decisions of the party as far as we know. Below are further reasons Dodzie Numekevor must resign:

1. Ethical Responsibility to Constituents: An MP’s primary duty is to represent the will and interests of the people in their constituency. If the political party’s actions regarding the Songor Lagoon conflict with the people’s desires or well-being, staying in the party and contesting on the ticket of the party defeats every logical reasoning to his assertion that he will genuinely advocate for the concerns of the people he seeks to represent.Resigning would demonstrate that he prioritizes the constituents’ needs over party loyalty.

2. Alignment with Community Values: The Songor Lagoon is a vital resource for the Ada Sege community, with significant ecological, cultural, and economic importance. Any actions by the party that undermine its proper use, ownership, or sustainability could alienate the local population. By disassociating from a party seen as disregarding these values, Dodzie Numekevor could strengthen his position as a leader who aligns with the community’s principles.

3. Political Accountability: Resigning sends a message of accountability, acknowledging the party’s failure to address concerns and taking a stand against it.This move can hold the party leadership accountable for decisions that are seen as detrimental to the community.

In summary, until Dodzie Numekevor resigns from the party he represents which is the New Patriotic Party, we cannot take his words of commitment to serving the people of Sege Constituency specifically regarding issues of Songor Lagoon seriously.
