Election 2024: It will be a national catastrophe to retain N…
Mr. Abraham Koomson, Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), has issued a stern warning about the dangers of retaining the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in power, describing it as a potential “national catastrophe.”
“The third term of NPP will be full of wailing and gnashing of teeth. They will throw the majority of Ghanaians into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth,” Mr. Koomson declared on Sunday.
He emphasized the significance of the December 7 polls, urging all Ghanaians to take a bold stand against the current government. “Saturday, December 7th offers Ghanaians, especially workers, the ordinary suffering people of this nation, pensioners whose investments have been locked up, and investors whose capital was locked through the banking sector cleanup, an opportunity to vote for change,” he said.
“It is time for traders, journalists, security personnel, drivers, students, teachers, farmers, religious and traditional leaders, Christians, and Muslims—indeed everyone—to take a bold stand and vote out the current government,” Mr. Koomson asserted.
He called for unity beyond party affiliations: “This is not about political party allegiance; it’s about our survival as a nation and the future of our children and grandchildren. We must vote for change to end the suffering. Vote for John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidates across the country.”
In Tema, Mr. Koomson specifically criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, claiming his leadership has been disastrous for the economy. “How can Dr. Bawumia, the head of the government’s economic management team, claim that 17 cedis to a dollar in 2024 is better than 4 cedis to a dollar in 2016? Blaming everything on the global pandemic is just senseless,” he said.
Mr. Koomson warned against falling for last-minute vote-buying schemes and urged Ghanaians to resist the temptation. “God will not forgive us or listen to our prayers if we vote for the people who are making our lives miserable. Let us follow the divine order and vote out the NPP,” he said.
Highlighting the ballot box as a critical tool for accountability, Mr. Koomson added, “Let us boldly enter into the booth and vote for John Dramani Mahama and the NDC Parliamentary Candidates to form the next government to reset the nation.”
He further cautioned against voting for Dr. Bawumia, describing him as the wrong choice in the current economic climate. “Avoid voting for the wrong and making decisions that could further deteriorate the living conditions of millions,” he said.
In response to accusations of partisanship, Mr. Koomson stated, “My labour and political advocacy started from the Rawlings era and stems solely from my background as a labour leader. I represent the interests of workers, and I see how they are suffering under these economic conditions.
“I have not taken a dime from any political party, nor am I seeking any political appointment. My only goal is to advocate for change so the workers I lead can have a better life,” he clarified.
Reflecting on the NPP’s tenure, Mr. Koomson accused the government of unfulfilled promises and economic mismanagement. “What has the NPP achieved in these eight years? All their promises have failed. If we do not vote wisely, we are heading for even greater trouble,” he lamented.
He concluded with a call to action: “This is the reason why we must vote massively for John Dramani Mahama and the NDC Parliamentary Candidates across the country to form the next government and reset the nation for rapid economic recovery.”
