Social News Eliminate Regional Ministers; Ghana can do without them — Oliver Barker to Mahama

MON, 23 DEC 2024

Ghanaian social activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has called on President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to reconsider the appointment of regional ministers, suggesting that the country can function effectively without them.

Barker-Vormawor shared his proposal in a social media post on Monday, December 23.

In his post, Barker-Vormawor highlighted the potential for a bloated government under Mahama’s administration, pointing out the President-Elect’s commitment to appoint 60 ministers.

“The President-Elect has committed to appoint 60 ministers,” he said. “If he appoints 19 Cabinet Ministers and their Deputies, that is already 38. If he appoints 16 regional Ministers; that’s already 54 ministers. 6 left.”

Barker-Vormawor argued that regional ministers are not essential in a functioning government.

“My bold idea is that the President Elect must eliminate Regional Ministers! We can do without them,” he stated. “That is the only way his idea for a lean government will work.”

The call comes as part of a wider public debate on oversized government and efficiency.

Proponents of a leaner government argue that fewer ministers would not only reduce costs but also streamline decision-making processes.
