The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has apprehended 13 individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities on the grounds of the Akrokerri College of Education in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.
The arrests were made on Thursday, December 11, 2025, during a targeted police operation that also resulted in the seizure of four water-pumping machines reportedly used to facilitate the illegal mining operations.
The suspects have been identified as:
Christopher Kabiobayo, 25 Eric Owusu, 27 Emmanuel Opoku Awuah, 21 Mosea Terkpertey, 29 Emmanuel Appiah Harrison, 31 John Okrah, 31 Shadrack Sarfo, 23 Adu Desmond, 26 Abdul Wahab, 23 Elvis Abnce, 33 Sarfo Shadrack, 33 Nicholas Tetteh, 30 Darko Yaw, 23 Addressing the media on Friday, December 12, at the Ashanti South Regional Police Command in Bekwai, Regional Commander DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba confirmed that all suspects had been arraigned before court.
He urged anyone involved in illegal mining or other criminal activities to cease their actions or face the full force of the law.
“I advise all criminals to desist from their acts if they want their peace, and I further warn them that they will be pursued by my able officers, wherever they are hiding, including illegal miners,” DCOP Nyaaba warned.
The police operation highlights the Command’s renewed commitment to combating illegal mining activities and enforcing environmental and public safety regulations in the region.
Authorities continue to appeal to the public to report illegal mining activities to prevent environmental degradation and ensure the safety of communities in the Ashanti Region.
