POSITION: Business Development Manager

Job Description
Duty Station: Accra
PURPOSE
The business development manager will drive product innovation at BRAC Ghana Savings and Loans Ltd (BGSL), overseeing the research, development, implementation, monitoring, and review of new products as well as adjustments to existing ones. The individual will report to the Chief Business Support and ensure that BGSL’s product and service offerings are in line with the needs of its target clientele (as stated in its purpose) as well as the entity’s strategic goals.
The candidate will collaborate closely with the Product Unit at BRAC International Microfinance (BI MF) to achieve strategic alignment and product quality. At BGSL, the role will work closely with various cross-functional teams, including field operations, digital transformation, IT, and social performance management, among others. For product efforts related to BRAC MF interventions, the individual will collaborate with BRAC, MFI, and NGO teams to guarantee comprehensive service delivery.
Major Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the BIHBV product team and country management to design and implement nation-level product strategies and roadmaps to ensure social mission success.
- As needed, incorporate developing issues/concerns affecting target segments and regulator requirements into product strategy.
- Drive research and design of new products (agri finance, youth finance, savings, insurance, and so on), as well as enhancements to current products, utilizing human-centered design principles in partnership with the BI MF Product Unit and cross-functional teams within BGSL.
- Encourage and promote the effective use of client data from system reports and business intelligence tools to feed into the development of new client-centric solutions and refining of existing goods and services.
- Plan and oversee the development, pilot testing, and roll-out of new products (or adjustments to existing products), drawing on lessons learned from previous and current implementations at the BGSL and throughout the BI MF network.
- Monitor and review products/processes across the board to produce insights and lessons learned from deployment that will assist lead changes and inform scale-up/roll-out. Regularly gather and analyze feedback from customers, stakeholders, and other teams/channels, and use this feedback to improve products and services.
- Ensure high-quality project outcomes while adhering to client and corporate product KPIs. Create and maintain complete project documentation for all product initiatives, including project pilot and scale-up plans, implementation dates, budgets, and reports that define the project scope and objectives.
- Collaborate with the Programme Manager and the BI MF Product Unit to create product-specific operational materials, training materials and strategies, communications materials, and business needs documents for the product (re)configuration.
- Attend biweekly check-in calls with the BI MF Product Unit, as well as biannual product peer group calls. Attend conferences and training as needed to be proficient.
- Draft and/or provide technical comments on fundraising prospects with product innovation components.
- Manage essential relationships with partners, where relevant, in the research, design, and execution of goods.
Safeguarding responsibilities
- Implement the safeguarding policy to foster a culture of safety at all levels of the program. Serve as a primary source of assistance, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding to create a safe workplace.
- Responsible for ensuring that team members receive sufficient training, support, and access to resources for issues identified and addressed in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedure.
- Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case of a reportable occurrence, and encourage others to do the same.
Required Skill or Experience
EXPERIENCE (Including Sector/Industry)
- At least 5 years of expertise in business development, ideally in microfinance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- Experience with the human-centered design methodology
- Experience with research, product development, product implementation, knowledge management, or field operations in the microfinance sector
- Detail-oriented, with good analytical abilities, knowledge of market research, leading data collection procedures, and the ability to work with quantitative and qualitative information.
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization using Power BI or other software is preferred, but not needed.
- Drive, adaptability, resilience, and the capacity to operate under pressure.
- Ability to operate efficiently across time zones and team locations, as well as in person with stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work in confusing circumstances with minimal organization.
- Fluency in English and Twi is necessary (spoken, read, and written).
SPECIFIC EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
- Degree/Masters Concentration/Major Related Professional certification is preferred. Business Administration, Finance, Economics, and Development Studies
