CHOOSE YOUR ACTIONS WISELY
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 14
The simple believes every word, but the prudent considers well his steps. *Proverbs 14:15*_
This proverb makes a comparison between the simple and the prudent.
The simple. That word ‘simple’ means ‘childish, naïve and inexperienced’. It gives the impression of a person who is not mature enough to see beyond the mask.
The simple is also sometimes described as ‘lazy’ or ‘slothful’. They take the easy way out.
Easily persuaded by what he hears.
The simple believes every word’ – they are not able to critically examine information. They believe any story they hear. They believe everything they read in the newspapers, on TV, and on the radio. They are unable to independently verify the truth.
Believe his way is always right.
Because the simple cannot critically examine what he hears, he is also unable to review their stance on a subject. They stake all they have on a point of view because they cannot consider any other alternative.
The prudent. The word ‘prudent’ means to be sensible. It means to have good judgment. It is the reason why a lot of money-managing institutions have derivatives of ‘prudent’ in their name. A wise person is prudent. Sometimes, the wise person is also called ‘diligent’.
Examine a path before following.
This is the mark of wisdom. Wisdom investigates a path before starting the journey. ‘The prudent considers well his steps’. Prudent people take time to examine the situation confronting them before acting.
Consider the consequences of his actions.
The wise man/woman understands that actions do not stand on their own.
They know that every action will trigger a process of reactions. As a result, they do not just think about what they are doing; they also consider what will happen after they have done their part.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me not to fall for lies and deception. Guide me to wisely choose my actions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
