Honorable Faustina Amissah, Chief Executive of the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, has urged recipients of the Disability Fund to make productive use of the items provided to them through the District Assemblies Common Fund.
Speaking to people with disabilities in Obuasi East, she emphasized that the fund aims to empower beneficiaries economically and improve their quality of life.
Currently, three percent of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), disbursed quarterly to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), is allocated for the welfare of persons with disabilities (PWDs).
In its second disbursement of the year, the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, represented by Hon. Amissah, distributed items such as fufu-pounding machines, hairdryers, deep freezers, soft drinks, ice chests, cocoa spraying machines, and sewing machines to 27 PWDs. Additionally, eight beneficiaries received educational support, and one received medical support, bringing the total to 36 recipients.
Hon. Amissah highlighted that the Assembly has established a monitoring team to oversee the use of the items by the beneficiaries. “We want to ensure the objectives of the Disability Fund are met, so we have monitoring teams at both the district and regional levels who visit beneficiaries to assess how the items are being utilized. We always remind them not to sell the items but to use them for their intended purpose,” she said.
Fuseini Anyoasi, chairman of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled in Obuasi East, praised the government for its consistent disbursement of the Disability Fund, noting that it has enabled members to create livelihoods for themselves and their families.
