As part of efforts to foster peace and raise awareness ahead of the upcoming 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, a table tennis tournament was held, culminating in a spirited competition that saw Team Nananom emerge as the champions in the institutional edition.

The event brought together players from various backgrounds, emphasising the importance of unity and harmony in the electoral process.

The tournament featured three competitive categories: Professionals, identifiable Institutions and Ladies.

In a display of exceptional skill, Kelvin Yarboi from the New Juaben Table Tennis Club clinched the title in the Professionals category, while Abigail Okyere triumphed in the Ladies category.

The highlight of the event was Team Nananom’s victory, led by Nana Asante Boateng I, who proudly accepted the ultimate accolade for the institutional division, showcasing the talent and dedication of the participants.

Following the thrilling matches, Nana Asante Boateng I, also known as Akwadum Nkosouhene, along with Nana Baffour, representing Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III, delivered poignant messages emphasising the critical need to maintain peace in the nation.

They urged representatives from the major political parties, including the NPP and NDC, to actively discourage their members from engaging in any actions that could disrupt the tranquillity that has characterised Ghana’s democracy.

The tournament attracted a diverse audience, including notable community figures such as Mr. Maxwell Kudorkor, the Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, and former table tennis superstar Nana Yaw Boateng.

Their presence underscored the significance of the event, as they joined other dignitaries like Ohenenana Stella Sereboh Yiadom Agyeman Kakari, a Director of NJTTC, and representatives from Dot.com events, all of whom contributed to the celebration of sportsmanship and peace.

As the nation gears up for the 2024 elections, this tournament serves as a reminder of the power of sports to unite people and promote a peaceful electoral atmosphere. The commitment shown by the participants and organisers reflects a collective desire to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted in a spirit of cooperation and respect, paving the way for a brighter future for Ghana.
