POSITION: Senior Trainer – Mine Operations

About this role:

To ensure that mining operations/equipment operators receive cost-effective competency-based training programs while also developing the necessary skills and values. It entails class scheduling, on-the-job training, and assessments in order to produce a trained and skilled workforce for mining operations, as well as the implementation and monitoring of the local labor force.

Responsibilities

Ensuring compliance

  • Comply with all Newmont Occupational Health and Safety regulations, as well as those outlined in relevant Ghana legislation.
  • Certify that all recording policies and procedures are followed.

Needs Analysis

  • Contribute to identifying the training requirements for the mining workforce.

Support

  • Support for the approved company mobile equipment licensing scheme.
  • Travel to and support additional Newmont sites as needed.

Training and Assessment

  • Conduct immersive/simulation training programs.
  • Implement mobile equipment operations training programs.
  • Implement driver/live vehicle licensing and permitting programs.
  • Create training bundles.
  • Train the national workforce to meet Newmont standards.
  • Train mining employees on standard operating practices.
  • Assess operators at various levels of skill to ensure competency growth.
  • Assess and assess in support of operator recruitment.

Your Training, Skills, and Experience:

Formal qualifications (including professional registrations):

  • A diploma or degree in mining or mechanical engineering.
  • Workplace Trainer and Assessor Certification.
  • Mincom Trainer Certificate Driver Instructor and Assessor Certificate – an added benefit.

Additional knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Ghana’s Occupational Health and Safety laws.

Experience:

  • Between 5 and 7 years of experience operating heavy mobile equipment in open pit mining operations.
  • Experience with competency-based training, both on and off the job.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced written and vocal communication abilities, as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership abilities: Capability to plan and implement process training activities.
  • Coaching abilities: Effective training facilitation and presenting skills.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office suite applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
