Marlins Swim Club Founder, Ralph Quaye, has talked about how proud he is of Ghanaian swimmer Harry Stacey who is set to compete in his first Olympics.
Stacey will compete in the 100 Metre Men’s Freestyle heat on Tuesday, July 30 at 9:15 GMT as Ghana’s first athlete to feature in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Stacey featured in the 2023 ChannelOne TV National Swimming Championship for Marlins and played a key role in Marlins triumph as the overall best performing team.
In an interview with ChannelOne Sports ahead of Stacey’s debut in the Olympics, Quaye praised Stacey’s rise to the elite level.
“It’s incredible, I’m incredibly proud. When he joined us three years ago, that was always his dream; to participate in the Olympics. We told him that we have his back, we learn from him, he learns from us and it’s nice to see that the goal was achieved three years down the line.”
Stacey is one of just two Ghanaian swimmers competing the 2024 Olympics. Joselle Mensah will compete in the Women’s 50 Metre Freestyle heat on August 3.
