Paris 2024: We have to give credit to Azamati and Saminu- Benjamin Graham

The Media Attaché of Team Ghana at the 2024 Olympic Games, Benjamin Willie Graham, has called for credit to be given to Ghana’s sprinters at the Paris Games.

He said this in an exclusive interview on ChannelOne Sports’ Score Card in the aftermath of Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu’s unsuccessful attempt to qualify to the Men’s 100 Metres Final.

Azamati run a time of 10.17 seconds in the first of three heats to finish ninth in the semifinals while Saminu run 10.05 seconds to finish seventh in heat three.

Both athletes missed out on qualifying to the final event that had the United States of America sprinter Noah Lyles win in a time of 9.79 seconds. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Addressing the issue, Graham highlighted the times Azamati and Saminu run against elite level of competition that had all the competitors in the final run below 10 seconds.

“I think it was a good race, these gentlemen gave their all in this championship and of course when you take a look the times they made before coming here…and then of course you take a look at the heats of 10 or top five athletes, you realize that all of them or a majority of them did under 10 (seconds) so basically telling you that it was going to be a tough one.”

Deputy Communications Director of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Benjamin Graham
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu

“We have to give credit to these athletes, they have worked hard to be here.”
