Ranking Member on the Sports Committee in Ghana’s Parliament, Wisdom Kobena Woyome, has stated that a probe into the expenditure at the 2023 AFCON will definitely happen in Parliament.

He said this in an interview after a Ghana Parliament Select Team beat a select team of former Black Stars players 3-1 in a curtain raiser event in the Democracy Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency featured in the game and was pleased with meeting the objective of the event.  (Click highlighted text to read full story)

He added that the probe had delayed due to changes in Parliament’s Sports Committee but assured that it will be conducted. Ghana exited the 2023 AFCON at the group stage after failing to win any of the three games the Black Stars played in.

“We’ve going through some changes in Parliament, some new standing orders are coming in and all that. In fact, it was yesterday (July 17) that the new ranking order kicked in and now the Ranking Member is now the Chairman and the Chairman is now the ranking (member) that is what has happened.”

“So we will have our meetings…definitely, it’s something that we need to do because it’s a public interest matter so it’s something that we will definitely do in the interest of the public.”
