σιωπάω siōpáō, see-o-pah'-o; from σιωπή siōpḗ (silence, i.e. a hush; properly, muteness, i.e. involuntary stillness, or inability to speak; and thus differing from G4602, which is rather a voluntary refusal or indisposition to speak, although the terms are often used synonymously); to be dumb (but not deaf also, like G2974 properly); figuratively, to be calm (as quiet water):—dumb, (hold) peace.
The KJV translates Strong's G4623 in the following manner: hold (one's) peace (9x), peace (1x), dumb (1x).
to be silent, hold one's peace
used of one's silence because dumb
metaph. of a calm, quiet sea
Strong's Number G4623 matches the Greek σιωπάω (siōpaō),
which occurs 11 times in 11 verses
in the TR Greek.
