Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Tamimu Issah, has called for an end to the management committee system used by Ghana’s national football teams, including the Black Stars. He described the system as outdated and ineffective during an interview with Asempa FM.

“One of the problems I have is the management committee system. Just look around, where do you have this kind of system? It is archaic. We should do away with it,” Issah said. He added that while teams need management, the current structure in Ghana football is flawed and does not align with modern practices.

His comments come in the wake of the GFA’s decision to dissolve the Black Stars’ management committee. The move follows the team’s poor performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where they failed to win a single match. Ghana, a four-time AFCON champion, finished last in Group F with just three points from three draws and three losses. This marks the first time in 20 years that the Black Stars will miss the tournament, which will take place in Morocco.

The GFA has announced plans to form a new management committee to handle future games, including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers set to resume in March 2025. Despite the challenges, the Black Stars aim to bounce back and reclaim their reputation on the international stage.
