Jeremiah Chapter 46 (Passion Bible)
1 The words of Yahweh spoken through the prophet Jeremiah against the nations.[1]
2 This is a prophecy against the army of Pharaoh Neco[2] of Egypt at Carchemish[3] on the river Euphrates. King Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians defeated the Egyptians in the fourth year of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah.
3 Egypt’s commanders shout:
4 Horsemen, harness the horses
5 But Yahweh asks,
6 Don’t let the swift ones get away.
7 “Who is this that rises like the Nile,[4]
8 Why, it’s Egypt that rose like the Nile,
9 Go ahead, Egypt, tell your horsemen—‘Charge!’
10 For this is the day of Lord Yahweh, Commander of Angel Armies,
11 Go ahead—try to find some healing medicine in Gilead,
12 The nations have heard of your humiliation;
13 This is the message Yahweh spoke to the prophet Jeremiah about Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon advancing to strike Egypt.
14 “Tell this throughout Egypt;
15 Why has your mighty god Apis[8] fled?
16 Yahweh made many stumble and fall.
17 They have given a nickname to Pharaoh, king of Egypt—
18 “As surely as I am the King, the Living God,
19 Get your bags packed to go into exile,
20 Egypt was a lovely, splendid heifer,
21 The mercenaries she had with her
22 Egypt hisses like a snake crawling away,[12]
23 They shall cut down her impenetrable forest,”
24 Fair Egypt will be put to shame.
25 Yahweh, God of Israel, Commander of Angel Armies, says: “Behold, I will punish Amon,[13] the god of the Egyptians in the city of Thebes.[14] Yes, I will punish Egypt, her gods, her rulers, Pharaoh, and those who put their trust in him.
26 I will hand them over to those who seek their lives, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his commanders. But afterward, Egypt will be inhabited again as in the past,” declares Yahweh.
27 “Do not yield to fear, my servant Jacob.
28 Yahweh declares to you, “My servant Jacob,
