Lamentations
Chapter 1
(Passion Bible)
Lamentations 1
Ready to read
1
How lonely sits the city
2
She is weeping bitterly[2] through the night,
3
Judah’s people have gone into exile
4
The empty roads to Zion mourn,
5
Her foes have the upper hand
6
All the splendor has departed
7
In her days of wandering and affliction,
8
Jerusalem has committed a horrible sin
9
Her filth stains her skirts—
10
The enemy has seized
11
Everyone is groaning,
12
“None who passes by
13
“From on high, he sent a fire deep in my bones,[10]
14
“Yahweh took my sins in his hands
15
“The Lord has despised and rejected
16
“This is why I weep bitterly,
17
Zion stretches out her hands for help,
18
“Yahweh is just to judge,
19
“I called to my lovers,
20
“Yahweh, can’t you see I’m in deep trouble?
21
“They have heard my groans,
22
“Let all their wickedness condemn them.
