How the gold has lost its luster!

The precious children of Zion,
3
Even the vicious jackal[2]
4
The nursing babies have such thirst
5
Those who used to feast on delicacies
6
The punishment of my beloved people[5]
7
Israel’s nobility[7] was once brighter than snow,
8
Now their faces are emaciated;[8]
9
Better are those killed by the sword
10
The hands of caring women
11
At the peak of Yahweh’s wrath,
12
No king believed,
13
Yet this happened because of the sins of her prophets
14
They wandered blindly through the city
15
“Get away! Unclean!” people shouted at them.
16
The face of Yahweh scattered them;
17
We strained our eyes continually and looked,
18
Men stalked us
19
Our pursuers were swifter
20
They captured Yahweh’s anointed leader, our king;[11]
21
Go ahead, you people of Edom and Uz,
22
Your punishment is over, fair daughter of Zion.[15]
