¹ “Now Ezekiel, sing this funeral song to mourn the rulers[1] of Israel,

² saying,

³ One of the cubs she raised

⁴ The nations heard about him,

⁵ When she realized that he was not coming back,

⁶ He prowled among the pride

⁷ He demolished their strongholds[6]

⁸ The nations marched out against him

⁹ With their hooks they captured him,[7]

¹⁰ “ ‘Your mother was like a grapevine

¹¹ She grew strong branches, and some grew very high,

¹² But disaster struck the vine.

¹³ Now what remains of her has been transplanted to the desert,

¹⁴ Fire spread from her stem
