“Now Ezekiel, sing this funeral song to mourn the rulers[1] of Israel,

saying,
3
One of the cubs she raised
4
The nations heard about him,
5
When she realized that he was not coming back,
6
He prowled among the pride
7
He demolished their strongholds[6]
8
The nations marched out against him
9
With their hooks they captured him,[7]
10
“ ‘Your mother was like a grapevine
11
She grew strong branches, and some grew very high,
12
But disaster struck the vine.
13
Now what remains of her has been transplanted to the desert,
14
Fire spread from her stem
