Hosea
Chapter 13
(CSB)
Hosea 13
Ready to read
1
When Ephraim spoke, ⓔ there was trembling; he was exalted in Israel. ⓕ But he incurred guilt through Baal ⓖ and died.
2
Now they continue to sin and make themselves a cast image, ⓗ idols skillfully made from their silver, ⓘ all of them the work of craftsmen. ⓙ People say about them, “Let the men who sacrifice [1] kiss the calves.” ⓚ
3
Therefore, they will be like the morning mist, ⓛ like the early dew that vanishes, like chaff blown from a threshing floor, ⓜ or like smoke from a window. ⓝ
4
I have been the LORD your God ⓐ ever since [2] the land of Egypt; you know no God but me, ⓑ and no Savior exists besides me. ⓒ
5
I knew [3] you in the wilderness, ⓓ in the land of drought.
6
When they had pasture, they became satisfied; ⓔ they were satisfied, and their hearts became proud. ⓕ Therefore they forgot me. ⓖ
7
So I will be like a lion ⓗ to them; I will lurk like a leopard ⓘ on the path.
8
I will attack them like a bear robbed of her cubs and tear open the rib cage over their hearts. I will devour them there like a lioness, ⓙ like a wild beast that would rip them open.
9
I will destroy you, Israel; you have no help but me. [4] ⓚ
10
Where now is your king, [5] ⓛ that he may save you in all your cities, and the [6] rulers [7] ⓜ you demanded, saying, “Give me a king and leaders”?
11
I give you a king in my anger ⓝ and take away a king in my wrath. ⓐ
12
Ephraim’s guilt is preserved; his sin is stored up. ⓑ
13
Labor pains come on him. ⓒ He is not a wise son; ⓓ when the time comes, he will not be born. [8] ⓔ
14
I will ransom them from the power of Sheol. I will redeem [9] them from death. ⓕ Death, where are your barbs? Sheol, where is your sting? ⓖ Compassion is hidden from my eyes. ⓗ
15
Although he flourishes among his brothers, [10] ⓘ an east wind will come, ⓙ a wind from the LORD rising up from the desert. His water source will fail, and his spring will run dry. ⓚ The wind [11] will plunder the treasury ⓛ of every precious item.
16
Samaria ⓜ will bear her guilt ⓝ because she has rebelled against her God. ⓐ They will fall by the sword; ⓑ their children will be dashed to pieces, ⓒ and their pregnant women ripped open. ⓓ
