2024 BECE: Invigilator arrested; another barred for examination malpractice in Sunyani

The Bono Regional Director of Education, Gabriel Antwi has urged candidates writing this year’s BECE not to panic as the examination is based on what they learn in school. He said this during a visit to some of the examination centers in the Sunyani Municipality.

Mr Gabriel Antwi in his interaction with the Candidates at the Twene Amanfo Senior High and Technical School encouraged and cautioned against individuals claiming to have solutions to questions locally known as ‘apo’.

This year’s BECE began on Monday, July 8, and a visit to the Twene Amanfo Senior High and Technical School centre revealed the arrest of an invigilator for smuggling his phone into the examination hall to solve questions for candidates.

Gregory Gigera, a Mathematics tutor at Twene Amanfo Senior High and Technical School was arrested after he was spotted by the Bono Regional Director of Education, Gabriel Antwi taking pictures of questions with his mobile phone and solving them for candidates.

The Bono, Ahafo and Bono East controller of WAEC, Gloria Bayor who handed him to the police said, this would deter others from indulging in such acts.

Another invigilator, Augustine Kyeremeh, and also an ICT tutor at the same school was also barred from the exercise due to his negligence while some candidates were exchanging their booklets in the course of the exam.

The Public Relations Officer at the Bono Regional Directorate of Education, Luke Mensah said Ghana Education Service, GES, will proceed with the matter using its Internal Disciplinary Committee.

Per the rules governing the examination, the invigilators and candidates are not allowed to bring any gadgets or foreign materials into the examination hall.
