Abena Osei-Asare joins BoG Board, steps down from ADB

Abena Osei-Asare, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and the Financial Stability Council.

Her new roles come with significant responsibilities in overseeing the country’s central banking operations and ensuring financial stability, marking a key milestone in her public service career.

As a result of her recent appointments, Mrs. Osei-Asare has stepped down from her position as a non-executive director of the Agricultural Development Bank PLC (ADB), effective August 7, 2024.

She served on the ADB Board for six years, having been appointed in August 2018.

During her tenure, she held several critical roles, including chairing the Risk Committee, where she contributed to the bank’s strategic direction and risk management practices.

Abena Osei-Asare’s appointment to the BoG Board is seen as a testament to her extensive experience in finance and governance.

She has played a pivotal role in Ghana’s financial sector, previously serving as Deputy Minister for Finance, where she focused on budgeting and later took charge of revenue matters.

Her financial expertise is further underscored by her background as a chartered accountant, with professional experience at Barclays Bank Ghana and New York University.

Currently serving her third term as the Member of Parliament for the Atiwa East Constituency, Mrs. Osei-Asare has been an active figure in Ghana’s legislative landscape.

She has contributed significantly as a member of key parliamentary committees, including the Employment, Social Welfare, and State Enterprises Committee and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Beyond her parliamentary duties, she has been a member of various public boards and committees, including the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GAIDEC), and Exim Bank Ghana.

She also chairs the Ghana.gov Implementation Steering Committee, highlighting her influence in shaping Ghana’s economic policies and governance.

In her new role at the Bank of Ghana and the Financial Stability Council, Mrs.

Osei-Asare is expected to bring her wealth of experience to bear, particularly in navigating the complexities of financial regulation and economic stability.

Her departure from the ADB marks the end of a notable chapter in her career, but her ongoing contributions to Ghana’s financial sector continue to grow in importance and impact.
