In order to improve access to potable water at Asikasu Community in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region, the Renton Seventh Day Adventist, SDA, Church in Washington DC, USA and Ubucor Construction Limited under the supervision of East Ghana Conference of the Church have constructed, commissioned and handed-over a 49,000 Cedis mechanized borehole to the Asikasu Number One community.
Asikasu is a farming community with a population of over five hundred. They grow crops such as maize, cassava, plantain, cocoa among others.
The community for the past years has no access to potable water. The only source of water in the community is the Asikasu stream which has also been destroyed due to the on-going road construction in the community.
To mitigate the challenge of inaccessibility of potable water, the Renton Seventh Day Adventist, SDA, Church in Washington, USA and Ubucor Construction Limited have decided, commissioned and handed-over a 49 thousand Cedis mechanized borehole to the community.
In an interview with GBC News, the President of the East Ghana Conference of the SDA Church, Pastor Dr. Samuel Bonya Arloo stressed that the project is to help solve the water challenge confronting the community and its adjoining communities.
The Ghana Coordinator of Ubucor Construction Company Limited, Elijah Davis said his outfit has a collaboration with the Renton SDA Church with the focus of constructing two hundred boreholes for African countries.
He stated that his outfit decided to start with Ghana and upon a request from the Pastor of the Church, Pastor Patrick Nyarnor who wrote a proposal for the execution of the project.
The Oyoko District Pastor of SDA Church, Pastor Patrick Nyarnor explained how the community got the attention of the Ubucor Construction to come to their aid.
The Chief of Asikasu Number One, Nene Komlorm Tettey while commending the Renton SDA, Church in Washington, USA appealed to other benevolent, NGOs and government agencies to help stock their CHPS compound with medical equipment and drugs for the community to have access to quality healthcare.
