Chief fines man whose son’s corpse was inappropriately handled in viral video

The father of a young man whose body was shown being handled roughly in a widely shared social media video has been called before and fined by the Ashanti region’s Traditional Council of Asante Akyem Akutuase.

This comes after puretvonline.com earlier reported how the Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency condemned inappropriate handling of a dead body at Asante Akyem in the Ashanti region.

The agency expressed its sadness at the deceased’s lack of decency and respect.

They denounce these heinous deeds because they go against the respect for seriousness and dignity.

The area chief, Nana Kofi Bediako, told Adom News monitored by Puretvonline.com that the father is supposed to send a sheep and GH₵500 for transporting the body to Akutuase rather than his wife’s homeland.

He said that the deceased was not to be buried in Akutuase according to tradition and customs because his mother was not from that town.

During the “Awukude3” on July 17, 2024, the father will also purify the stone of the gods known as Brosambour using a sheep, a bottle of schnapps, and GH₵1,000.

GH₵500 has also been penalised to Nana Kofi, the person who captured the video and shared it, even though the incident occurred more than five years ago.

The chief stated that there might be serious repercussions for the community, which is why the town needs to be purified and disasters avoided by ceremonies.

Kofi will therefore bring four bottles of schnapps, GH₵5,000, and two sheep for all the ceremonies.

The three men who carried the body on their shoulders have departed, according to Nana Kofi Bediako.
