Dr. Ato Forson expresses gratitude to God following acquittal in ambulance case

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, has expressed his gratitude to God following his acquittal and discharge by the Court of Appeal in the ongoing ambulance case. Dr. Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa were both acquitted on Tuesday, July 30.

In a heartfelt post on his Facebook wall, Dr. Forson praised God for his victory, quoting Romans 9:14: “What, then, shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all!”

The Court of Appeal’s decision overturned the trial court’s order for Dr. Forson to open his defence in the case, marking a significant legal victory for the Minority Leader.

Previously, the High Court in Accra on June 6 dismissed Dr. Forson’s application for a mistrial and an inquiry into the conduct of Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame. The trial judge ruled that Dr. Forson had not demonstrated any statutory provisions warranting a mistrial or an inquiry into the Attorney General’s actions.

In response, Dr. Forson’s legal team filed a supplementary affidavit on June 3, supporting their motion for a mistrial, injunction, and stay of proceedings. The affidavit cited a leaked tape featuring a conversation between the Attorney General and the third accused, Richard Jakpa, in which the Attorney General allegedly coached Jakpa to implicate Dr. Forson in the trial.

Dr. Forson’s legal team argued that the Attorney General’s conduct showed a blatant disregard for the rule of law and ethical prosecution standards, undermining public confidence in the judicial process.

The Court of Appeal, in a 2:1 majority decision, upheld Dr. Forson’s appeal, resulting in his acquittal and that of Richard Jakpa. This ruling highlights the importance of judicial integrity and adherence to legal standards in the judicial process.

In his Facebook post, Dr. Forson expressed deep relief and thankfulness for the court’s decision, reaffirming his faith and gratitude for the support he has received throughout the trial.
