Illegal connections are a threat to Ghana's economy, says Ing. Amoako-Baah
The former CEO of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO), Ing. Jonathan Amoako-Baah, has expressed grave worries about the problems facing Ghana’s electricity industry.
He clarified that illegal connections pose a threat to the economy since they prevent the state from making enough money from the sale of electricity to fund more development initiatives.
Speaking at the Energy News Africa LTD Media Training for Journalists in Greater Accra, Ing. Amoako-Baah discussed the underlying causes of the sporadic power supply, sometimes known as “Dumsor,” emphasising the role played by human activity such unauthorised electricity connections.
He said that homes were not only vulnerable to fraud by these kinds of third parties, but that they also caused the firm to lose money, which prevented it from giving electricity to other individuals who might be in need.
As a result, Ing. urged Ghanaians to stop obtaining illicit electricity connections through third parties.
During the event, Mr. William Boateng, the ECG’s Director of Communications, also gave Ghanaians a mission: if there is a power outage in their area, they should notify ECG right away so that power may be restored quickly.
He added that they have introduced a new technology system that will help reduce dumsor in the country.
