The Guinness World Records (GWR) has disqualified Ghanaian Afua Asantewaa’s longest singing marathon she attempted in December 2023.

In response to a query about her attempt, GWR tweeted, “Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Record attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.”

The GWR said this in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) adding that despite the setback they hope she makes another attempt.

GWR also mentioned that the evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority service, so her earlier payment has been refunded.

“We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” GWR tweeted on February 23.
Earlier this month, Afua Asantewaa revealed that she paid $750 to expedite her priority review process with Guinness World Records.

Afua Asantewaa in December 2023 took on the challenge to beat the existing record which stands at 105 hours set in 2012.

Asantewaa endured a five-day singing marathon which began at midnight on Sunday, December 24, 2023, and ended at 7:00 am on December 29, 2023.

At the time she ended her record attempt on Friday morning, the young woman had sung for five days, six hours and 55 minutes.

In an interview earlier this year, Afua Asantewaa explained that the usual review process with Guinness World Records takes up to twelve weeks, but with payment, one can have it within five days.

She mentioned that after two weeks of attempting the record, she decided to expedite her review process, which required her to pay the aforementioned amount.

“I have an account with them [GWR], so right after the record attempt, they requested our files because we were putting everything together. They reached out to us and requested our videos. I think after two weeks waiting, we decided to go for priority review.

“The normal review takes not less or more than twelve weeks, but if you want it quick, you pay an amount of money, and they review your file within five working days, and that is what we paid for.

“Officially, it is $650, but if you are going to pay into an account, you have to pay some transaction fees. So, in total, we paid around $750,” she told JoyNews.
