Ghana’s Parliament has announced the formation of Ethics, Ways and Means Committee and several other committees to enhance the oversight responsibilities placed on the legislature.
These committees are essential for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of parliamentary proceedings.
For example the newly constituted Ethics Committee according to the House will be responsible for overseeing the conduct of Members of Parliament (MPs) and ensuring adherence to ethical standards.
“This committee aims to uphold the dignity and reputation of the legislative body by addressing any breaches of conduct and implementing necessary disciplinary measures,” it added
The newly constituted Ethics and Standards Committee as well as Ways and Means Committees will be chaired by Asokwa MP, Madam Patricia Appiagyei.
The MP for North Tongu, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has been appointed to Chair the Assurance Committee.
The Assurance Committee, chaired by Mr. Ablakwa, is tasked with ensuring that government promises and commitments made to Parliament and the public are fulfilled.
Both the existing and the newly formed committees, the House explained plays a critical role in holding the executive accountable and ensuring transparency in governance.
Parliament has also constituted the Economy and Development Committee and the Backbenchers Committee.
