Government says it is determined to enforce strictly the law on vigilantism. Any individual or group found culpable in falling foul of the law will be made to face its full rigors.
President Akufo-Addo, who reiterated this at the Jubilee House on the occasion of the Swearing in of three ambassadors, noted that no candidate or political party is superior to the will of the Ghanaian people.
He said vigilantism has no place in Ghana’s democratic space, and called on all to ensure a peaceful and orderly election period.
The three are Major General Charles Abedi Asumanin Awiti, Mr. Pepra Ampriatwum, and Alhaji Fawaz Aliu.
Major General Charles Kujo Abedi Asumanin Awiti, who will act as Ambassador-designate to Serbia, has had a distinguished military career marked by exemplary service to the Ghana Armed Forces. Throughout his career, he has held various key positions, each contributing to the strength and professionalism of the military.
In his new role, his wealth of experience and deep understanding of international relations will serve as an asset in deepening strong bilateral ties and promoting mutual understanding between Ghana and Serbia.
Mr. Pepra Amprichun is a career diplomat rising to the pinnacle of his career in the Foreign Service. Throughout Mr. Amprichun’s journey in the diplomatic service, he has held various important positions which have helped in advancing Ghana’s interests. The latest being Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. As Ambassador in situ, he will continue to be a pillar of strength in the diplomatic corps.
Aladji Fawaz Aliu, deputy Chief of Staff, will be taking on the additional role of Ambassador-at-Large. He started his career as a Foreign Service Officer in the Office of the President in 2017.
President Akufo-Addo was confident the three will excel in this new role, and further strengthening Ghana’s diplomatic efforts worldwide. He urged them to carry out their duties with the highest level of integrity and professionalism.
The president again assured the diplomats that the December polls will be free and fair, promising government action in curbing vigilantism.
“Vigilantism has no place in our democratic space, and we must all work together to ensure a peaceful and orderly election period. Ambassadors, designators, you embark on this important journey. Know that you have the full,” President Akufo-Addo added.
On economic recovery, the President noted that indicators are visible and the economy is steadily progressing towards prosperous and self-reliant Ghana.
“If you will recall, I did say at the height of the pandemic that we knew how to bring the economy back to life, but did not know how to bring people back to life. This remark was made to justify the extraordinary, colossal expenditures that government had to make during the pandemic to afford relief and protection to the population. I believe in all humility that the nation is today appreciative of the validity of my statement as our economic recovery continues strongly on course.”
Major General Charles Abedi Asumanin Awiti, on behalf of his colleagues, pledged to serve Ghana in an exemplary manner.
