The Director General of GBC Professor Amin Alhassan has urged religious leaders to use their platforms to propagate positive messages. This is to promote tolerance among their followers, uphold peaceful co-existence among various religious beliefs, and safeguard Ghana’s democracy.

Professor Amin Alhassan, said this when the Bishop of the Accra Diocese of the Anglican Church, the Right Reverend Daniel Slyvanus Mensah Torto paid a courtesy call on the Management of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in Accra.

Prof Alhassan assured of GBC’s commitment to serving the public interest and upholding high standards of journalism in the country.

“As a public survey broadcaster, our mandate requires that we always take feedback from the public and we consider this as one of those and we will surely be taken seriously. Despite the multiplicity of media outlets in the country, the presence of a public survey broadcaster in every serious democracy can never be overemphasized”.

He added that, “GBC is oriented towards reaching out to the citizens for more information. So, our emphasis, if you stay in Accra, you will tend not to be able to appreciate what we do. But if you really have a whole country like you, appreciate the fact that we are unique in what we do and no one else compares us to what we do”.

“Because in a democracy, especially in movements like this, I keep telling people the most important institutions in a democracy more like this are the moral authorities. Because they must speak up and ensure that the right institutions are resourced to deliver their mandate. We think that is how our democracy can be sustained”, he noted.

The visit by Right Rev. Torto, was centered on obtaining a mutual relationship with GBC having been away since 2019.
He commended GBC for their collaborative efforts and stressed the importance of individual dedication to ensure the institution’s continued success, even in the era of new media outlets.

“For a long time, almost four years now, I have not been in this house. I just want to formalize myself with you since I have not been here since 2019. And so, we are here also as well to say, GBC is doing a good job, but the challenge is that there are now a lot of stations, I think we need to step up. That’s what I want to put into your court because we started with GBC. Now there are a lot of stations. And so, we must have something that will draw us to the station. I’m just here, as I said, to say, keep the good work and then let’s get to hear more of GBC,” He emphasized.
