Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has unveiled an ambitious plan to make smartphones incredibly affordable for all Ghanaians.

Speaking at a vibrant campaign event in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Bawumia promised that, if elected president, his government will work with phone manufacturers to offer smartphones on a credit basis, costing as little as Ghc1 or Ghc2 per month.

“Smartphones are no longer a luxury; they are a necessity,” Bawumia declared. “My administration will ensure that every Ghanaian has access to these essential tools. We will partner with manufacturers to make mobile phones available on credit, allowing citizens to pay just GHC1 or GHC2 each month.”

Bawumia’s plan aims to address the high cost of smartphones, which currently limits their accessibility for many Ghanaians. By making phones more affordable, the initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide and foster greater participation in the digital economy.

“This initiative is part of a larger strategy to enhance our technological landscape and stimulate economic growth,” Bawumia explained. “Access to smartphones opens doors to education, business, and staying connected with loved ones. By making them affordable, we are not only improving connectivity but also empowering Ghanaians to thrive in the digital age.”

The proposal includes not only low-cost smartphones but also educational programmes to help users make the most of their devices for personal and professional development. Bawumia’s vision is set to transform Ghana’s tech landscape and make digital empowerment a reality for millions.

With this plan, Bawumia aims to lead a digital revolution in Ghana, providing affordable technology and boosting opportunities for all citizens. If realised, this initiative could mark a significant leap towards a more connected and technologically advanced Ghana.
