Accra2023: High data volume likely responsible for volunteer allowance delay- Seidu Damba

A representative of volunteers for the 2023 African Games Protocol and Ceremonies section, Seidu Abdulai Damba, believes the high volume of data authorities have to deal with is likely the reason behind the delay in payment of allowances to volunteers for the recently ended African Games.

The 13th African Games took place in Ghana from March 8 to March 23 with the newly built Borteyman Sports Complex and renovated University of Ghana Stadium serving as the epicentres of the competition.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports in the wake of controversies connected to allowance payment to volunteers, Damba says sorting through the high volume of data submitted by volunteers for verification could possibly be the reason for the delay in payment.

“People are yet to receive their money but details have been submitted. I want to believe because of the huge volume of numbers that the managers are dealing with, that’s basically why there seems to be a delay or something of that sort but I believe as and when they are convinced that the data at their disposal reflects what they have in their system, they will definitely proceed with payment.”

Earlier this week, the Local Organizing Committee of the African Games stated that all volunteers should submit their details to receive an allowance of 1000 Ghana Cedis.
