Accra2023: Volunteers’ performance at African Games was 9.5 over 10- Seidu Damba

A representative of volunteers for the 2023 African Games Protocol and Ceremonies section, Seidu Abdulai Damba, says the performance of volunteers at the competition was worth a 9.5 over 10 mark.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports after the 13th African Games were held in Ghana from March 8 to March 23. Ghana won a record 69 medals in total at the competition.

Volunteers have come under the spotlight in recent weeks over disagreement in payment of allowances for work done during the Games.

On the sensitive issue of payment of allowances, Damba believes sorting through the high volume of data is likely the reason for the delay before praising the performance of individuals who volunteered for roles to ensure Ghana successfully hosted the 13th edition of the African Games. “On the scale of 1 to 10, I will rate the performance of volunteers to the success of this program, 9.5. We were very committed. We did our best, we conducted ourselves very well. These disturbances were just a lack of proper communication…and it was the basis upon which volunteers were angry.”

In a statement released earlier this week, the Local Organizing Committee stated that each volunteer is to be given 1000 Ghana cedis as allowance.
