SENT BY GOD

Scripture Reading: Exodus 7

So the LORD said to Moses: “See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet. You shall speak all that I command you. And Aaron your brother shall tell Pharaoh to send the children of Israel out of his land. Exodus 7:1–2

After countless self-doubting remarks from Moses, God decided to reaffirm Moses’s confidence by revealing to him who He had made him in the sight of Pharaoh; and this affirmation wascruciall to what God was about to do.

I have made you.

God made Moses. Moses did not make himself. By choosing him for the purpose of Israel’s deliverance from Egypt, God fitted Moses for the task and made him what he needed to be to accomplish it.

When God calls us, He makes us. This is the reason we cannot disqualify ourselves because of our background. God enables us to do as He wills.

Moses as God to Pharaoh.

Note that this is a figure of speech. God did not make Moses to be a ‘god’. The language is clear. Moses was made ‘as’ or ‘like’ God – it is a simile. It meant that Moses was going to play a role similar to God’s role.

Just as God had power over Moses, so Moses would have power over Pharaoh. And just as God’s words to Moses resulted in miraculous acts, Moses’ words to Pharaoh would produce miraculous acts.

Aaron as prophet to Moses.

The figure of speech continues in Moses’ relationship with Aaron. Aaron did not become a prophet to Moses but acted in a way similar to the way prophets carry a message. They repeat the words that God has spoken to them. Similarly, Aaron would repeat Moses’ words to Pharaoh. In practice, God would speak to Moses; Moses would speak to Aaron and Aaron would speak to Pharaoh.

God brings the right people our way to help us do His work. They come to assist in various ways to amplify our efforts and support us in completing our assignment.

Moses’ story is the story of the believer. God knows our weaknesses; He is aware of our inadequacies and insecurities and yet He still chooses to call us and use us for His glory. Our weaknesses are not a limitation to God’s power; our struggles and insecurities do not disqualify us.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, your word in my mouth carries your power. By your word, I rule over all the works of the enemy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
