Study in Africa: University of Rwanda Mastercard Scholarship 2027 (Fully Funded)

The 2027 University of Rwanda Mastercard Scholarship is a remarkable opportunity for promising young Africans with limited access to opportunities to pursue higher education. Selected scholars receive full financial and academic support.

The scholarship covers full school expenses, a laptop, study materials, a return ticket allowance per year, and a monthly stipend. Successful scholars will also receive academic coaching, psychosocial support, career development programmes, internships, and opportunities for leadership and community service.

This scholarship programme is ideal for applicants whose course of study falls within the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) areas, with a large number of scholarships earmarked for STEM courses. Ladies are also highly encouraged to apply, with 70% of scholarships reserved for them.

Eligible Programmes for University of Rwanda Mastercard Scholarship

1. College of Science and Technology

• The college has programmes in science, technology, engineering, and associated areas. See the up-to-date list of programmes offered under the scholarship request for STEM applicants.

2. College of Medicine and Health Sciences

• The college offers a lot of qualifying programmes in healthcare, medicine, health sciences, and associated fields for interested applicants.

3. College of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Sciences

This college is a good selection for students interested in:

• Agriculture,
• Forestry;
• Food sciences;
• Agricultural development;
• Natural resources;

4. College of Business and Economics

• Students with an interest in business, economics, management, finance, and related fields can apply to approved programmes through this college.

5. College of Education

• The College of Education offers academic programmes in education, teaching, learning and other fields of education.

6. College of Arts and Social Sciences

• The college offers a selection of programmes in arts, humanities, social sciences and allied subjects.

7. College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production

• The college provides academic instruction in the fields of veterinary medicine, animal production and allied subjects.

Requirements for the University of Rwanda Mastercard Scholarship

1. Nationality

The applicants must be:

• Citizens of Rwanda who qualify for the national scholarship quota;
• Nationals of other African countries;
• Refugees in Africa;
• Youth in Africa (displaced).

2. Academic Qualification

• Applicants must be academically qualified for the programme of their choice and have limited access to educational resources.
• Applicants must also meet the admission requirements of the University of Rwanda for the specific eligible programme they wish to pursue.

3. Minimum age

Applicants shall:

• Be not older than 28 years old at the time of application
• Be not older than 30 years for candidates with proven evidence of a prolonged life condition or situation, such as refugees, single moms or child-headed families.

4. University of Rwanda Admission

• Applicants must have generated a University of Rwanda (UR) Reference Number and applied for admission to an eligible programme at the University of Rwanda.

5. Leadership and Community Engagement

Applicants must show:

• Leadership potential;
• Community engagement;
• A commitment to giving back to their communities
• Participation in efforts to change their community.

6. Refugees and Persons with Disabilities

• Refugees and candidates with disabilities are required to submit proper legal papers verifying their status.

Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate

Eligible postgraduate applicants can also apply to the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

Applicants seeking postgraduate scholarships must meet the following criteria:

Admission to the University of Rwanda

• Applicants must have applied for admission to the University of Rwanda for the September intake in an appropriate two-year master’s programme.

Bachelor’s Degree

• Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in a subject similar to the master’s programme for which they are applying.

Citizenship and nationality

Applicants should be

• Rwandan nationals
• citizens of another African nation
• or eligible refugees with valid confirmation.
• UNHCR, MINEMA or other legally recognised organisations, if relevant, should certify refugee status.

Age Requirements

Applicants shall not exceed:

• Males must be 40 years of age and females 45 years of age when applying.

Demonstrated Financial or Social Need

• Applicants must demonstrate a serious social and economic need and/or disability.

Community Engagement and Leadership

Applicants should show:

• Leadership
• Community Engagement and Social Impact
• Community development commitment.

• Successful scholars are expected to show a strong commitment to giving back to their communities after their studies.

Benefits of University of Rwanda Mastercard Scholarship

1. Complete Tuition Fees

• Successful students will receive full tuition fee support, removing one of the biggest financial barriers to higher studies.

2. Laptop

• Successful students will be provided with laptops to assist them in their academic work, research, online learning, assignments and other educational activities.
