POSITION: AI & Data Lead – Senior Associate

Genser Energy Ghana is seeking an AI & Data Lead – Senior Associate to join our team. If you bring 6 to 8 years of experience in data engineering, AI, or analytics, hold a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Data Science, and want to work in the Oil & Gas industry, this role offers the perfect opportunity to design modern data foundations and deploy production grade AI solutions.

Your Mission

You will lead the development of data infrastructure, analytics capability, and AI driven solutions across the organisation. Your focus will span data engineering, AI architecture, platform management, analytics, and stakeholder collaboration. Your overarching goal: drive measurable operational efficiency and cost reduction by ensuring data is clean, structured, secure, and reliable.

Key Responsibilities

Your role spans data pipelines, AI enablement, platform infrastructure, analytics, and stakeholder engagement. Here is what you will tackle:

Data Engineering & AI Pipelines

• You will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines (ETL and ELT) that support analytics and AI use cases.
• Developing and managing data architectures that support AI workflows and model development ensures smooth integration.
• Integrating and preparing structured and unstructured datasets for AI applications expands the scope of what our models can learn.
• Ensuring high levels of data quality, reliability, and availability for AI models protects the integrity of every downstream insight.

AI & Machine Learning Enablement

• You will design end to end AI architectures, from data ingestion through model deployment, integrating with cloud and on premises systems.
• Selecting appropriate technologies from open source and commercial offerings, considering deployment models and integration with existing tools, demonstrates technical judgment.
• Leading the development of AI models including machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision, then implementing scalable AI solutions, turns concepts into impact.

Data Platform & Infrastructure

• You will design and maintain cloud based data platforms, working with big data tools and modern data architectures.
• Supporting data observability and monitoring to detect pipeline issues and data drift prevents failures before they affect operations.
• Ensuring compliance with data governance, security, and relevant regulations protects the organisation.

Analytics & Business Insights

• You will develop dashboards and reporting solutions that make data visible and actionable.
• Translating business and operational requirements into data and AI solutions bridges the gap between technical capability and real need.
• Enabling advanced analytics and decision making across departments empowers colleagues at every level.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• You will work closely with Engineering, Operations, and Back Office teams, understanding their challenges and opportunities.
• Collaborating with external partners on AI pilots and deployments expands our capabilities and accelerates learning.
• Enabling business teams by providing reliable data infrastructure allows them to focus on their core missions.
• Acting as a bridge between business, data, and AI initiatives ensures alignment and shared understanding.

Budgeting & Organisational Development

• You will actively assist the Department Head with monthly budget preparation.
• Developing and managing all budget items, including cost control and expenditure forecasting, demonstrates financial responsibility.
• Supervising the team to execute assigned projects within deadlines and budget builds accountability.
• Carrying out performance appraisals and development plans with subordinate staff invests in your team’s growth.

Strategic End Goals

• Operational Efficiency: Reduce time spent on manual reporting, data reconciliation, and routine decision making across Power, Midstream, and Engineering through automation and AI driven workflows.
• Cost Reduction: Identify and eliminate cost inefficiencies via predictive analytics, asset optimisation, and smarter procurement and resource planning.
• Data Driven Decision Making: Ensure leadership across all SBUs have timely, reliable data to drive strategic and operational decisions.
• AI Adoption at Scale: Mature Genser’s AI capability from isolated pilots to embedded, production grade solutions across business units within a defined roadmap.

What You Bring to the Role

We are looking for a candidate with the right qualifications, experience, and technical skills. Here is what you need:

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or Information Systems.
• A Master’s degree in Machine Learning, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence gives you a distinct advantage.
• Certifications in AI and ML technologies and Cloud platforms such as AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty, Google Cloud Professional Machine Learning Engineer, Azure AI Engineer, Azure Data Scientist, or Azure Solutions Architect are highly valued.
• Multicultural experience is a plus.
• Proficiency in French is a plus.

Knowledge & Experience

• Six to eight years of experience in data engineering, AI, or analytics, preferably within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience building data pipelines and ETL or ELT processes.
• Experience with cloud platforms, with Azure preferred.
• Strong understanding of data modelling and data architecture.
• Experience with machine learning frameworks.
• Experience working with both structured and unstructured data.
