POSITION: Blastman

Underground Mining Alliance Akyem (UMAA) is seeking a qualified and experienced Blastman to join our charge up team. Your Mission

You will work as part of the charge up team, taking responsibility for loading, priming, and detonating explosives in drilled blast holes according to design specifications. Your focus will center on following procedures, handling explosives safely, setting up firing systems, and conducting pre blast and post blast area checks. Your commitment to safety and your technical competence will keep your team and the operation secure.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Your role encompasses explosive handling, charge up execution, detonation, and safety compliance. Here is what you will tackle:

Charge Up & Explosive Handling

• You will charge blast holes with explosives according to established procedures, ensuring proper loading density and distribution.
• Handling, transporting, and storing explosives safely protects you, your team, and the mine.

Detonation & Firing Systems

• You will set up and connect detonators, fuses, and firing systems with precision, following the blast design exactly.
• Assisting with stemming and securing blast sites contains the blast energy and directs it where needed.

Team Coordination & Compliance

• You will follow instructions from the Leading Hand Blastman, working as part of a coordinated team.
• Conducting pre blast and post blast area checks for safety compliance confirms that conditions are safe before firing and that the blast achieved its intended result.

What You Bring to the Role

We are looking for a candidate with the right education, experience, technical knowledge, and certifications. Here is what you need:

Education

• A minimum of a High School Certificate.
• A certificate or coursework in Mining, Engineering, or a related technical field gives you a distinct advantage.

Experience

• Underground charge up and blasting experience is essential. You have worked in underground mining environments and understand the unique challenges.
• Basic knowledge of explosives and detonator systems, including initiation sequences and timing.

Certifications & Licenses

• Blasting competency certification (or willingness to obtain) demonstrates your professional standing.
• A valid Ghanaian driving and operating license with Class C and E endorsements, plus the ability to drive an SUV underground.

Safety & Personal Attributes

• Deep knowledge of explosives safety standards and regulations, including transport, storage, and handling protocols.
• Ability to work safely in high risk conditions while maintaining focus and following procedures.
• Willingness and ability to work underground on a roster basis, including extended shifts and night work.
