POSITION: Maintenance Technician

HPW fresh & dry Ltd is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our technical team in Adeiso, Eastern Region. If you possess strong analytical and problem solving skills, knowledge of conveyors, motors, gearboxes, and precision tools, plus good report writing and computer skills, this role offers the opportunity to ensure our premium dried fruit production runs reliably, safely, and efficiently.

As a Maintenance Technician, you will not simply fix broken machines; you will start up equipment before production, inspect for physical damage, train machine operators, request spare parts on time, and submit daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports. Your Mission

You will take responsibility for inspecting all production machines and equipment, performing planned preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring timely breakdown fixes. Your role includes starting up all production machines before each shift, inspecting for physical damage, carrying out both preventive and corrective maintenance, and submitting daily preventive maintenance reports to your supervisor. Additionally, you will train machine operators on correct machine use, request spare parts on time, and adhere strictly to health, safety, and food safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Your role spans startup and inspection, preventive and corrective maintenance, training, reporting, safety compliance, and process improvement. Here is what you will tackle:

Startup & Inspection

• You will start up all production machines and equipment before production begins, ensuring they run correctly from the first shift.
• Inspecting all production machines and equipment for physical damage, catching issues before they cause breakdowns.

Maintenance Execution

• You will carry out both preventive and corrective maintenance on all scheduled production equipment and machines.
• Ensuring breakdowns on machines receive timely fixes, minimizing downtime and production loss.

Spare Parts & Reporting

• You will request all spare parts required for maintenance work on time, preventing delays.
• Submitting a daily preventive maintenance report to the supervisor for closeout.
• Submitting weekly reports on the state of production machines and monthly reports on all maintenance work in production facilities.

Training & Coaching

• You will train and coach machine operators on the correct use of machines, reducing operator induced damage.
• Building operator competence so they can identify early warning signs of machine trouble.

Safety & Compliance

• You will adhere to health and safety protocols during maintenance work, protecting yourself and colleagues.
• Adhering to food safety protocols during maintenance work, preventing contamination of food contact surfaces.

Process Improvement

• You will submit quarterly reports on process improvements in production facilities, recommending upgrades or changes.

Collaboration

• You will maintain departmental relations with all departments and external relations with third party contractors related to maintenance.

What You Bring to the Role

Education & Experience

• A minimum of an HND, Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering (plant or production option).
• A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a similar role, preferably in a fruit processing environment.

Technical Knowledge

• Knowledge of machines and tools including conveyors, motors, gearboxes, precision tools, grinding machines, and drilling machines.
• Good knowledge of report writing for daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly submissions.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for documentation and presentations.

Skills & Abilities

• Analytical thinking skills to diagnose complex mechanical problems.
• Problem solving skills to find solutions when spare parts are unavailable or breakdowns recur.
• Result oriented skills to prioritize tasks that keep production running.
• Written and verbal communication skills to interact with operators, supervisors, and contractors.

Physical Requirements

• A lot of walking, standing, squatting, sitting, and lifting of materials required on the job.

Equipment & Tools

• Computer for reporting and documentation, plus a standard set of mechanical tools.
