POSITION: Reconciliation Officer

BRAC Ghana Savings and Loans Ltd is seeking a Reconciliation Officer to join our team in Accra. As a Reconciliation Officer, you will not simply match numbers; you will ensure financial integrity, protect customer confidence, and support a mission that transforms lives.

Your Mission

You will take responsibility for investigating, tracking, and reporting discrepancies or unbalanced transactions. Your role includes clearing and managing general ledgers by ensuring outstanding transactions get properly categorized, reconciling banking transactions and preparing monthly bank reconciliation statements, reconciling accounts payable and receivable, and reconciling daily, weekly, and monthly financial transactions and balances. Additionally, you will liaise with third parties, internal audit, and operational departments to resolve issues, escalate unresolved differences, assist in process improvement, and support month end and year end close processes.

Key Responsibilities

Your role spans discrepancy investigation, ledger management, reconciliation, collaboration, process improvement, and confidentiality. Here is what you will tackle:

Discrepancy Investigation

  • You will investigate, track, and report on any discrepancies or unbalanced transactions, identifying root causes.
  • Ensuring timely escalation of unresolved reconciliation differences.

General Ledger Management

  • You will clear and manage GLs by ensuring outstanding transactions are properly categorized.
  • Maintaining clean ledgers that support accurate financial reporting.

Bank & Monthly Reconciliations

  • You will reconcile banking transactions and prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements.
  • Matching bank statements against internal records to catch errors or fraud.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • You will reconcile accounts payable and receivable, ensuring every invoice and payment matches.
  • Following up on discrepancies with vendors or customers.

Daily, Weekly, Monthly Transactions

  • You will reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly financial transactions and balances.
  • Building a routine that catches errors early before they compound.

Collaboration & Escalation

  • You will liaise with third parties, internal audit, and operational departments to resolve issues.
  • Escalating unresolved differences to appropriate management.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • You will assist in improving reconciliation processes and automation initiatives.
  • Identifying manual steps that could be automated for efficiency.

Financial Analysis & Close Support

  • You will analyze financial data to support business decision making.
  • Supporting month end and year end close processes.

Confidentiality

  • You will maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping financial information confidential.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Establish a safeguarding culture across the Institution by implementing the safeguarding policy.
  • Act as a key source of support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Ensure team members receive appropriate training, support, and access to resources regarding safeguarding issues.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, and encourage others to do the same.

What You Bring to the Role

Education & Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline. A professional certificate or postgraduate degree in Accounting or Finance gives you an added advantage.
  • A minimum of one to three years of post qualification experience in accounting within the financial services industry.
  • Proficiency in MS 365 Office, BoG ORASS, and T24 software. Advanced MS Excel skills give you an added advantage.
