POSITION: Mechanical Engineer

SBP Africa Limited is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for our client in the manufacturing industry. If you possess strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment, and CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks, this role offers the opportunity to design, install, and maintain production machinery while supporting continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Your Mission

You will take responsibility for designing, developing, and modifying mechanical components, systems, and machinery for manufacturing operations. Your role includes overseeing installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical equipment, performing preventive and corrective maintenance, analyzing equipment performance, troubleshooting failures, and preparing technical drawings and documentation. Additionally, you will collaborate with production, electrical, and quality teams, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, manage spare parts planning, and support automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Your role spans design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Here is what you will tackle:

Design & Development

• You will design, develop, and modify mechanical components, systems, and machinery for manufacturing operations.
• Creating technical drawings and specifications using CAD software.

Installation & Commissioning

• You will oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
• Ensuring new machinery integrates smoothly into existing production lines.

Maintenance

• You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production machinery to minimize downtime.
• Scheduling regular inspections and servicing based on equipment history.

Performance Analysis

• You will analyze equipment performance and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
• Then, identifying recurring failure patterns and proposing design or process changes.

Troubleshooting

• You will troubleshoot mechanical failures and provide timely solutions.
• Also, diagnosing issues in hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment, and mechanical drives.

Documentation

• You will prepare technical drawings, specifications, and documentation.
• Keeping maintenance records, spare parts lists, and equipment manuals up to date.

Collaboration

• You will collaborate with production, electrical, and quality teams to support manufacturing goals.
• Participating in cross functional meetings to align mechanical engineering with production targets.

Compliance

• You will ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Conducting risk assessments for new installations or modifications.

Spare Parts & Scheduling

• You will manage spare parts planning and maintenance schedules.
• Ensuring critical spares remain in stock to avoid extended downtime.

Continuous Improvement

• You will support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and automation initiatives.
• Identifying opportunities to reduce waste, improve throughput, or automate manual processes.

What You Bring to the Role

Qualifications & Experience

• A bachelor’s degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of three years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the manufacturing industry.

Technical Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar.
• Experience with preventive maintenance systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with production, electrical, and quality teams.
