Russia Launches New 1-Year Multiple-Entry Business Visa Program for Eligible International Travellers

Russia has introduced a new long-term business visa route designed for selected foreign nationals and their families. The policy could benefit entrepreneurs, investors, technology professionals, and business delegates requiring frequent travel to Russia. Authorities announced the program through the official social media platform of the Russian Embassy.

Under the new arrangement, approved applicants classified as “persons of interest” can receive one-year multiple-entry business visas. The initiative reflects Russia’s growing interest in attracting skilled professionals and strengthening commercial partnerships with friendly nations. International travellers connected to trade, education, energy, information technology, and investment sectors may especially benefit from easier repeat travel opportunities.

Understanding Russia’s “Person of Interest” Status

Russia’s new immigration category offers selected foreign nationals several advantages intended to simplify relocation and professional engagement. Approved applicants may receive faster access to residence permits and exemption from temporary residency quotas. Authorities also plan to waive Russian language testing requirements while allowing eligible individuals to work without additional permits.

Importantly, these benefits also extend to accompanying family members under the same immigration framework. Russia additionally promises support for relocation and settlement processes for approved foreign applicants. Overall, the program appears designed to attract skilled professionals and high-value commercial contributors into the Russian economy.

Who Could Potentially Qualify?

Russian authorities have not yet released a complete list of industries or individuals eligible under the new scheme. However, applicants will likely still need standard business visa documentation before approval. This may include a valid passport, sponsorship from a Russian organisation, completed application forms, photographs, and supporting business documents.

International applicants should also expect authorities to closely examine the purpose of travel and sponsoring entities. Russia’s traditional business visa system already relies heavily on officially approved invitation letters from authorised organisations. Therefore, applicants connected to recognised sectors and strategic partnerships may receive stronger consideration during evaluations.

Required Documents for the New Business Visa

Applicants seeking the one-year multiple-entry visa must provide several mandatory documents during the application process. Russian consular offices require either an official invitation issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs or a telex from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Applicants must also submit passports containing at least two blank pages with validity extending six months beyond visa expiry.

Additionally, travellers must complete the official online visa application form and attach a recent passport-sized photograph. Authorities also require valid medical insurance providing minimum coverage of thirty thousand euros inside the Russian Federation. These documentation standards remain essential even under the new immigration route for strategic foreign visitors.

Stay Limits and Important Visa Rules

Although the visa allows multiple entries over one year, it does not provide residency rights within Russia. Under Russian migration law, travellers can only remain in the country for ninety days within every one hundred eighty-day period. Once applicants reach this limit, they must leave the country before returning under the same visa conditions.

Authorities also confirm that the business visa cannot be extended from within Russia after issuance. Therefore, travellers should carefully monitor stay durations and travel schedules to avoid immigration violations during business activities.

Processing Time and Travel Connectivity

Russian consular authorities usually process these business visa applications within ten to twelve working days after submission. Applicants needing faster approval may request urgent processing for additional fees, reducing waiting periods to approximately three working days.

What Business Travellers Should Watch Closely

The biggest uncertainty surrounding this program involves how Russian authorities will identify and approve “persons of interest.” If eligibility rules remain broad, many business professionals could benefit from easier and faster travel access. However, stricter political or sector-based filtering could limit approvals to selected industries and strategic partnerships only.

Nevertheless, Russia’s latest visa policy clearly signals stronger interest in attracting repeat visitors connected to trade, investment, and economic cooperation. For professionals seeking long-term commercial engagement with Russia, this development may create valuable new travel and business opportunities ahead.
